New York's Earth Room is a permanent installation of 250 cubics of soil covering 3,600 square feet of space and 22 inches deep. Its quite a fascinating piece of work for me but most especially in the way that the artist and the public perceive it. De Maria is a vanguardist artist who explores the relationship between art and the natural environment, earthroom is described as a "huge space filled with dirt" that remains unchanged since the late 1970s. I remember watching a documentary on YouTube on the person who is currently taking care of the installation and thinking how interesting is that such a simple thing as a room filled with dirt can carry a whole lot of importance for someone. Making people want to visit it, sit there, experience it for a moment.

It is described as a place of silence, calmness, "It's art, it's earth, it's quiet, and it's time" described by Dilworth in the widewalls magazine.

Even the process of taking care of it is very specific, the artist developed a routine to be able to maintain the same soil condition for over decades of time without any change.
